Who We Are

When challenged to pick the greatest of the Commandments, Jesus responded “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.” (Matthew 22:37-40)

At St. John’s, we seek to engage each part of ourselves — heart, soul, and mind — in the practice of loving God and our neighbors. Part of it is done during our worship services, with readings, songs, and prayers celebrating our connection to God’s creation and in gratitude for the gifts shared with us. Another part of it is done in the activities among our community as stewards of God’s gifts. Yet another part is done in various ways of serving our neighbors with food and fellowship opportunities.

We draw members from North Haven and each of the several towns around North Haven. Many of our families have been a part of the parish for many years and reflect diverse economic and cultural backgrounds. There is a long tradition of serving our community through food ministries and providing opportunities for fellowship for old and young alike. There is also a desire to continue to be open to change to reflect the changing needs of our communities.
