Dear Fellow Parishioners,
It was wonderful to see the pews filled with church members and friends of Father Matt’s as he conducted his final service as rector of St. John’s and to enjoy the fellowship that followed in the great hall. Many, many thanks to those who helped with all that went into making the day a proper tribute to Father Matt’s tenure here.

So, what comes next?

Our next order of business will be to form our Transition Leadership Team. This team will be comprised of our Wardens and Vestry, Interim Rector and Transition Consultant, a person experienced in clergy transitions who will work with our Wardens, Vestry and Transition Teams throughout the transition process. When our Interim Rector is in place and our Transition Consultant assigned, the Vestry will meet and select the members of our Transition Team from across the parish. The team will be made up of 10 to 12 church members to include at least one but no more than two Vestry members.

The work of our Transition Team is twofold:

1. Discern with the parish and create the story of how we’re participating in God’s mission here in North Haven to around the world. This will be used to update our website, create a parish profile, and pull together the other assets we need to recruit our next rector.

2. Recruit our next rector from among the candidates through interviews, conversation, parish visits, etc. and present the shortlist to the Vestry for their interview and call to our next rector.

If you are interested in serving, you are encouraged to send a letter of interest to the Vestry outlining your desire to serve and the gifts you bring to the team. The Transition Team Roles and Responsibilities will be posted outside the parish office.
Let’s enter this process prayerfully, asking for and listening to the guidance of The Holy Spirit. And let’s all concede that, although our approaches may differ, our goal is a common one, to protect the future of St. John’s in order to “love and serve the Lord.”

Andrea Connolly
Senior Warden

Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for this parish family. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within your holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
