Rector's Greeting

Reverand Matthew R. Lincoln“These Doors Are Open for Prayer and Peace.” So reads the sign next to the bright red doors of St. John’s Church – the real one made of bricks! That is a message of genuine invitation and welcome, and it is my pleasure to echo it here and invite you to come in and explore St. John’s through this cyber-portal. I hope it will answer any questions you may have about St. John’s and give you a sense of the flavor of this open and welcoming community of faith. Together, we strive to seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves.

Oh, about those doors – we keep them unlocked during daylight hours so that anyone can come in for prayer and meditation. The bright red color is a traditional symbol of sanctuary, and many people in the area come in for a few moments of peace and quiet in the midst of their daily routines. Yet, even while the street doors invite you into a seemingly empty building, you are met by the prayers of many, many people who have called St. John’s home over its nearly 250-year history. If you step through a door at the other end of the church nave, you’ll find the parish offices and our weekday school, the Play School, which are bustling with activity from morning into the evening every day of the week.

I speak for the whole community when I say I look forward to greeting you in person when you visit St. John’s.

Yours in Christ,

Matthew R. Lincoln
